1 b – Opponents of Truth

Chapter 1 – In Darkness

Opponents of truth

Today it seems truth is momentarily losing the battle, becoming marginalized. This is not happenstance, there is an element of our society encouraging falsehood; this darkness has a specific source.

For a discussion of the times when advanced truth was brought to our planet see Appendix 2. Briefly, two hundred thousand years ago the individual charged with governing our group of planets went into rebellion against universe government; he declared God does not exist and everybody should exert their own authority over those around them. He was Lucifer[1] and he sent his assistant Satan[2] to the individual planets encouraging them to join his rebellion. While the Bible may not catch the details, it certainly does capture the overall effect of the actions by Lucifer and Satan.

At the time of his rebellion Lucifer issued a manifesto declaring his position; the following table compares his assertions with issues from current society; references are to The Urantia Book.

Trivializes God: secularism

Our Planetary Prince at that time, Caligastia, chose to join this rebellion and the history of Earth has ever since been warped by this action. Because of this betrayal, our native sphere has no visible authority figure; there is no apparent representative of higher government. We are certainly not alone in the cosmos, but that may appear to be the case to anyone unaware of spiritual reality.

Those who work against truth generally follow the Lucifer doctrine Satan brought to our planet; they may therefore be called satanists. Broadly speaking they believe God does not exist and they should assert their will over their fellow human beings. These beings may talk about God but their actions speak to their denial of spiritual reality. They want to minimize governmental oversight and they feel free to distort the truth to suit their needs, saying anything to get the results they desire. They do not accept the truth God is supreme over all and they certainly do not accept the truth every human being has an actual fragment of our Heavenly Father dwelling within them (we discuss this in Chapter 2). He is literally with each one of us—equally.

On the other hand those who support truth seek God’s guidance because He is our Heavenly Father and creator of all things; rejecting God would be rejecting reality. If we accept His plans we are in harmony with reality, we can prosper and have a positive influence on those around us. How difficult it is when we attempt to fight against reality (the ultimate reality being God) and seek to pursue our personal agenda unaided by our spiritual helpers. Accepting God’s direction in our lives may not make things easier but the consequences of sincerely doing His will are infinitely better.

In any endeavor it is vital to know what we are up against. To know what sort of people or organizations will be working against us and our efforts to improve the spiritual climate of our native sphere.

Jesus was well aware of whom he was up against; it behooves us to be prepared.

Once we understand what has been used in the past we can better predict what will be used in the current struggle against the most recent revelation, the latest bringer of light and truth, The Urantia Book. There are also new tactics that are made easier by modern technology and these are being used in the satanist efforts; knowing this information we can better formulate plans to counteract their tactics. That is our goal.

Even today unthinking mortals can be led astray by following internal thoughts not in harmony with God’s will. There are no actual voices, we do not hallucinate and perceive disembodied sounds that speak to us urging evil deeds. Unseen beings can however speak to our minds and these we perceive as thoughts. We certainly must not follow every impulse just because the urge appears. Each proposed action must be individually evaluated to determine if it might be the will of God.

Since any proposal should be reasonable if the satanists expect the mortal to follow their suggestions, new plans are introduced by careful steps. This topic will be examined in more detail below but we need to keep in mind that unless we are careful and think things out clearly, our plans to “improve things” may be counterproductive (see the section on Adam and Eve in Appendix 2). These gradual steps may result in the mortal becoming the antithesis of what was desired. There is a story in popular entertainment describing this process. Anakin Skywalker started out as a decent young boy but by many gradual steps became the defender of evil, Darth Vader. As we go about our lives each little step may become important and therefore needs to be examined to determine the probable consequences of any proposed action even though this may be difficult in the heat of the moment.

Those who oppose the light of truth fall into two categories, the non-mortal and the mortal. The non-mortals are Caligastia, our fallen planetary prince and his staff while the mortal are the human beings who follow their guidance. There are mortals who follow the directions of the whisperings in their mind, perhaps not realizing what they are doing, but they follow nonetheless. Not everyone who is unhappy with a revelation of truth is acting under the direction of unseen forces; there are certainly those who have honest doubts that need to be addressed. What concerns us are those who have a secret agenda to undermine the work of the truth bringer. These actions may be subtle so we need to be conscious of subtle trends, changes and motives.

It is imperative that specific individuals or groups of individuals not be singled out as being “the enemy.” Our work is definitely not to judge but rather to further the spread of truth and to improve the spiritual awareness of our fellows; judge not that you be not judged.[4] Truth can be enhanced on its own merits; it does not need extravagant defenses.
